2014 Sacramental
Program
The Children's Sacramental Program at Sacred Heart
Parish is simple and enjoyable. A small group or single child
meets once a week for a half hour in the Parish Meeting room which
is attached to the Parish Hall. The time and day are usually agreed
upon by the parents and myself. As children usually have lots
of after- school commitments we are flexible in regard to lesson
times and days. The last few groups have met on Mondays straight
after school so the children have a lesson and are usually home
before 4pm. We serve a delicious afternoon tea. Parents and sometimes
grandparents sit in on the lesson and are very welcome to contribute.
The sacraments in order are:
The Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession)
The Sacrament of Holy Eucharist (First Communion)
The Sacrament of Confirmation
We generally spend 4-6 weeks on each with a large break in between
each Sacrament. It is wonderful to see the bond that the children
form with their sacramental friends and their initial trepidation
at beginning this big step in their spiritual lives usually melts
away quickly. The only requirement to begin the program is that
the child has received the Sacrament of Baptism.
The current group consists of six children from Year 2 to Year
6 all from Blackheath Public School. Thanks to Collette and to
all our SRE teachers.
